Request for payment of salary and other legitimate dues before Eid
We always celebrate Eidul Fitr in a befitting manner at the end of the holy month of Ramazan in consonance with our religious traditions and customs.
All industrial and commercial establishments, government departments and semi-government institutions have already announced support to their workers in the shape of not only a routine salary but an honorarium, bonus or a month's extra pay much before the Eidul Fitr, expected on Sept 21. Not only this, companies and institutions, especially multinational companies, have demonstrated the same spirit for patronising their employees and announcing advanced release of salaries and in addition to that one to two months' extra basic pays to them.
In a such scenario, we are confident that you would also create a good precedent to win over the hearts of your employees by making a comprehensive arrangement for ensuring release of current month's salary and also pay arrears and other due amounts to workers in your respective organisations.
We believe that you would demonstrate a spirit of generosity, and sympathetically consider this request which is not only our religious, but moral obligation, for which we shall be highly obliged.
This goodwill gesture pacifies the sentiments of workers who are passing very tough times in the wake of high inflation and sky-rocketing prices.
We believe that you would also consider that journalists working in your esteemed organisations are an instrument of expansion in your institution and they also deserve dividend in the shape of monetary help and timely payment of their salaries as well their outstanding arrears.
You are also aware that at present media persons are being paid salaries and other fringe benefits on the basis of inflation rate prevailing in 1996, and since then no noticeable increase in their salaries and other benefits had been made. Despite the fact that the 7th Wage Award became effective on July 1, 2000, the same is yet to be implemented by you.
We also draw your kind attention to this hard fact that the journalists, out of their sheer devotion, keep the nation informed about the happenings throughout the world by availing minimum leaves as compared to other segments of society.
"Such a zeal and enthusiastic approach of the journalists makes it necessary for you to give a better treatment to journalists and their families instead of putting them into financial trouble by blocking their genuine perks, annual increments, promotions and other rights."
